Project : Street furniture for Borgarlína (BRT) / Competition

Architecture : UNDRA & André Motta (assistance)

The proposal consists of simple and integrated design, technical solutions and installations for all Borgarlína (BRT) stops. The concept of the proposal is developed around one basic unit, which makes the proposal very flexible and creates possibilities for different implementations.

With a reference to the texture and pattern of lava flow movement "frozen" in time. The concept is intended to express the powerful nature of Iceland. The shape is reflected in the street furniture and creates a visual reference to a movement. The length of the platforms can easily be adapted to different situations and number of passengers.

Another priority in the design concept is a simple layout and good lighting. The stops are designed to serve the operational- and users needs as well as to enhance the pleasurable experience of using Borgarlína. An important factor for a good experience is protection against the weather therefore it is important that the shelter creates such a space even though the wait is not long.

Simple and clear choice of materials together with well-developed solutions increases efficiency and durability and reduces all maintenance needs. Steel, hardwood and glass in simple basic forms that are easy to assemble and adapt to different situations.
